We often get so caught up in the big things in life, focusing on the future or the past, that we forget to appreciate the small things in the here and now.


A small act of kindness from a stranger can stay with us for a long time. A beautiful sunset can fill us with wonder and awe. A delicious meal can make us excited and grateful.





When we take the time to appreciate the small things, we start to see the world in a new light. We realise that there is beauty and joy to be found in even the most ordinary moments.


So next time you're feeling down, take a moment to appreciate the small things around you, and ground yourself in the present moment. Look for 5 things you can see, 5 things you can hear, to start you off. You might be surprised at how much better you feel.


Here are some ways to find pleasure in the everyday:

  • Pay attention to the small things. When you're going about your day, stop intermittently to notice what's around you.

  • Be grateful for the small things. Take a moment each day to think about the things you're grateful for, both big and small. Aim to do this several times a day so you are practicing gratitude in the moment.

  • Spend time in nature. Nature can be a great way to connect with the world around you and appreciate the beauty of the small things.

  • Connect with others. Spending time with loved ones can re-energise you.

  • Connect with yourself. Pay attention to how you're feeling and what you want and need IN THIS MOMENT in service of your Big Picture. Sometimes this means saying 'no' to other people.
