How to find a Life Coach you love

Updated: Apr 9, 2019

Whether you are feeling stuck, lost, directionless, indecisive, or sick of being in limbo and want to move forward, you need a Life Coach. But how do you choose one?

Many Life Coaches now choose to carry out sessions over the phone, video call or email, not only because of the flexibility or convenience of being able to talk from the comfort of your own home, or the speed and ease it takes to get started (less excuses), but also because you can choose a Life Coach that you really like.

We know that no two of us are the same, and there will never be another you! But let's just pause for a minute to absorb how amazing that is... Since the beginning of time, every single one of your ancestors has survived, successfully looked after and then passed on life, resulting in... YOU. What are the chances?!

Your life is precious, you are unique and you deserve a Life Coach that tunes in to who you are and what you need. When working with a coach myself, I know I want to feel heard, valued, not judged and actively listened to. That they really care about my progress. And that they offer challenge and thought-provoking questions that help to develop a deeper understanding of self.

Life Coaching sessions are by their very nature confidential and completely non-judgemental, so that you can be really honest with yourself about what's not working for you right now and what you really want. Because this process is so personal to you (you'll be exploring your deepest, darkest thoughts after all) it's so important that you 'vibe' with the person you choose to work with.

A good coach will do all of the above, as well as call you out when you need to hear it (but don't necessarily want to), and hold you to account too. The support that a Life Coach offer has to differ for different people: you might prefer (need) a kick up the bum when you need to re-focus or stop procrastinating, for example, whereas for some people (or sometimes?) holding your hand is a better way to see you through.

There is no quick-fix or one-size-fits-all in coaching. It depends on you and what you're looking to achieve! One thing is for sure:

If you always do what you've always done,

you'll always get what you've always got!

So, how do you choose?

Life Coaches tend to offer a free sample session to have a chat and find out whether you're a good match. In honesty, the only way you're going to find a coach you love is to dive in and give it a go. Get a feel for them via their website first of course, then just go for it: book a call and see how you feel. You'll soon know whether they're right for you!
